NCR COUNTRY CLUB IN OHIO TO HOST
2005 U.S. SENIOR OPEN
Far Hills, N.J. – NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, a
neighboring city to Dayton, has been selected as the site
of the 2005 U.S. Senior Open, the United States Golf Association
has announced. The championship, for golfers age 50 and older,
will be played from July 28-31.
Plainfield (N.J.) Country Club was initially chosen to host
the 2005 Senior Open, but scheduling considerations have necessitated
the selection of an alternate site for the Championship.
NCR, which had been in discussions with the USGA to host the
2007 championship, was able to commit to host the 2005 Senior
Open instead.
“We are very excited to bring this national championship
to NCR Country Club, which has a rich history of hosting prestigious
golf events, including two USGA national championships,” said
Fred Ridley, chairman of the USGA Championship Committee.
Designed by Dick Wilson and opened in 1954, the
South course at NCR has been the site of the 1986 U.S. Women’s
Open, won by Jane Geddes; the 1998 U.S. Mid-Amateur, won by
John ‘Spider’ Miller; and the 1969 PGA Championship, won by
Raymond Floyd.
Including the two previous USGA Championships
at NCR Country Club, the state of Ohio has hosted 32 USGA
championships. The Senior Open is making its third visit
to Ohio, with previous championships at Scioto Country Club
in Columbus in 1986 and at Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland
in 1996.
Other future sites are The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio,
from June 26-29, 2003; Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis,
Mo., from July 29-August 1, 2004; and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club
in North Plains, Ore., from August 3-6, 2006.
