NOTES
THE FIELD – Of the 63 players who qualified for weekend
play, 16 reached the U.S. Senior Open through sectional qualifying.
After 36 holes, three of the qualifiers were at even par or
better: R.W. Eaks, the first-round leader, who shot 64-73—137
(5-under) and stands in 4th place; Jay Overton,
who shot 71-70—141 (1-under) and is T10th; and Roy Vucinich,
who shot 72-70—142 (E) and is T17th.
AMATEURS --- Paul Simson (an insurance executive from

the cut. Simson, the low amateur at the 2001 Senior Open
at Salem C.C. in Peabody, Mass., is a two-time U.S. Mid-Amateur
semifinalist and won the 1998 Carolinas Player of the Year
award. Clark is a two-time college All-American at California
State.
MORE SIMSON --- Paul Simson is attempting to follow Kemp
Richardson of Laguna Nigel, Calif., the 2002 USGA Senior Amateur

whose father, John, won the Senior Amateur in 1987, was the
low amateur at the 1999 and 2000 Senior Opens.
