 2001 Season Highlights
Fell out of the top 31 on the money list for the first time since 1998 despite hitting more than 73% of his Greens in Regulation for the fourth straight year...Had four top-10 finishes with three of them coming in the last half of the season...Registered a pair of top 10s in back-to-back weeks in the Boston area during the summer. Was T7 at the U.S. Senior Open at Salem CC, his best finish ever in a SENIOR TOUR major. Rebounded from a 78 on Thursday with three straight rounds in the 60s...Had T10 the week prior at the FleetBoston Classic thanks to consecutive rounds of 69s on the weekend at Nashawtuc...Highlight of his year came in his last start at The Transamerica. Finished T4 in Napa after battling Allen Doyle and eventual winner Sammy Rachels down to the wire. Vaulted into contention on Saturday when he fired a Silverado South course-record 10-under 62, his career-low score. Reeled off 11 birdies in the round and seven in a row (holes 1-7), a 2001 best run. Had a 7-under 28 on the front nine, a numerical low for nine holes last year...Also T9 early in the season at the SBC Senior Classic. Improved from a T33 after Saturday thanks to a 7-under 65 in the last round at Valencia Country Club...Had a 9-under 63 on the last day of the Mexico Senior Classic and T14 at LaVista Golf Club in Puebla.
 Career Highlights
2000: Among the top 10 in nine of 31 starts...Best effort was a solo third-place finish at the Kroger Senior Classic...Played his best golf in the first portion of the season with seven of his nine top-10 finishes coming prior to July 1...Went over $2 million in SENIOR TOUR earnings at the Bank One Senior Championship. 1999: Consistently on the leaderboard throughout the year and developed into one of the SENIOR TOUR's top ball-strikers...Won his first SENIOR TOUR event at the Southwestern Bell Dominion. Victory in San Antonio came 14 years after he claimed the Texas Open in the same city on the PGA TOUR, and made him the sixth of a record 11 first-time winners on the circuit. Made a 30-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat Jose Maria Canizares and Bruce Fleisher. Holed a clutch 20-foot birdie putt at the 17th hole in regulation to get into the overtime session...Teamed with Tom Wargo for a runner-up performance at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, three strokes back of the Hubert Green/Gil Morgan team...Hit 77 percent of Greens in Regulation, the highest mark in the history of the SENIOR TOUR at that time (since surpassed by Tom Kite's 78.0 in 2000) 1998: Debuted on the SENIOR TOUR at the Saint Luke's Classic near Kansas City and was T26...Played in 23 events and had his best finish at the Utah Showdown...Fired a final-round 68 in Park City and T2, four strokes back of Gil Morgan.
 Personal
Early in his career, was sought out by other players to do imitations...Many thought his comic imitation of Chi Chi Rodriguez's swing was even better than the real thing.
