Open qualified for the Royal Caribbean Classic and tied for seventh in the rain-shortened event thanks to a final-round 67 at Crandon Park. Shot 68 on Monday but did not earn the final spot in the tournament until he holed a 30-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to advance over five other players at the Country Club of Miami.

 2001 Season Highlights
Made a late-season push to earn a spot among the top 50 on the money list and a partial exemption for 2002...Best performance in a stroke-play event came in his last tournament when he finished T8 at The Transamerica. Moved into contention on Saturday with an 8-under 64, one of his two lowest rounds of the year. Came within a stroke of the lead on Sunday when he holed a lob wedge second shot for an eagle at Silverado's 14th hole...Also T5 at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Match Play Championship. Used a second-round 66 to qualify for the match play portion of the event. Lost in the quarterfinals to Leonard Thompson in 19 holes after going 23 holes in his win over Bob Charles in the first round of match play. His $78,000 check was the largest of his SENIOR TOUR career...Fired an 8-under 64 the following week in the first round of the TD Waterhouse Championship and was among the early leaders...Closed with rounds of 69-67 at Mississaugua and tied for 10th at the AT&T Canada Senior Open...Had a run of 15 straight par/better rounds late in the summer from the final day of the Novell Utah Showdown through Saturday of the Gold Rush Classic near Sacramento.

2000: Earned a conditional exemption on the SENIOR TOUR in his first attempt at qualifying for the circuit. Finished 72 holes at Walt Disney World with a 9-under 279 total and then secured the 12th position with a birdie on the second playoff hole...Advanced to the final stage after tying for sixth at the regional qualifier at Marsh Creek CC in St. Augustine, FL.

Was introduced to the game by his father, but got seriously interested when his best friend, PGA TOUR administrator Sid Wilson, also took up the game at age 12...Biggest thrill in golf was qualifying to play the SENIOR TOUR and getting a second chance 20 years after attempting to play the PGA TOUR...Lists his parents and Arnold Palmer as his heroes...Favorite golf course in Pebble Beach.
