 2001 Season Highlights
One of five Q-School rookies to earn a spot among the top 31 money-winners last year...Clinched his place when he finished T3 at the Turtle Bay Championship late in the season, his best performance of the campaign. Closed with a 5-under 67 in windy conditions and vaulted from 14th place into third on Sunday...Registered seven top-10s overall with four of them coming during a five-week stretch in June and early July. Was a cumulative 33-under and was only over par in one of his 15 rounds during that period...Was first in contention at the Toshiba Senior Classic in early March. Found himself as the 36-hole leader in the event after firing a career-best 8-under 63 at Newport Beach Country Club on Saturday. Faltered in the final round with a 6-over 77 and finished T10...Was next in the hunt at the Farmers Charity Classic. On the leaderboard each day at Egypt Valley and eventually placed fifth in Grand Rapids after three straight sub-70 rounds, one of only three players in the field to record a round in the 60s each day...Also T5 at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Match Play Championship, losing 2-up to Vicente Fernandez in the quarterfinals.

2000: Made four appearances after turning 50 in mid-year, all through open qualifying...Best effort was a T36 at the Lightpath Long Island Classic...Earned full playing privileges for 2001 after shooting four straight par/better rounds at Eagle Pines Golf Club at Walt Disney World. Was T2 along with Bill Holstead, seven strokes back of Bob Gilder...Had finished second to Sammy Rachels at the regional qualifier at The Moors in Milton, FL.

Got started in golf at age 6 when his dad, Marvin, made his first club for him...Lists Arnold Palmer as his biggest hero...Worked from 1982-1991 as a sports reporter and sports anchor for WBTV-Channel 3 in Charlotte...Was voted as the Golfcaster of the Year in 1985 by the Carolina Golf Writers Association and won several Associated Press and United Press International awards for sports broadcasting in the mid-80s...Also worked in group sales for the Charlotte Rage (arena football) in 1993.
