Claimed sixth title of his career when he nipped Bob Gilder and Fuzzy Zoeller by one stroke at the Siebel Classic in Silicon Valley. Closed with a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday in cold, rainy conditions at Coyote Creek GC. Win near San Jose marked the third year in succession he has claimed an event and the fifth time in his six years on the SENIOR TOUR with at least one victory...Started his year with a solo fourth finish at the MasterCard Championship thanks to three straight sub-par rounds at Hualalai...Also T4 at the Audi Senior Classic...Was tied for the lead in The ACE Group Classic after 11 holes on Sunday, but eventually finished T5 along with Allen Doyle and Sammy Rachels...Was also the first-round leader at the Emerald Coast Classic after shooting a 7-under 63, his numerical low this year, but eventually T5 in the rain-shortened event. ...Placed solo fifth at the Toshiba Senior Classic with three consecutive sub-70 scores.

Once again, among the leading money winners on the SENIOR TOUR and also the busiest with 37 starts, the most by any player on the SENIOR TOUR...Posted 14 top-10 finishes, including his fifth SENIOR TOUR title at the SBC Senior Open near Chicago. Three consecutive sub-70 rounds gave him a five-stroke victory over Jay Sigel...Twice a runner-up during the year...Second to Gil Morgan by two strokes at The ACE Group Classic and was one of three players to finish second at the TD Waterhouse, an event Ed Dougherty set a SENIOR PGA TOUR scoring record...Was T3 at the Farmers Charity Classic and solo third at the Kroger Senior Classic...His victory at the SBC Senior Open pushed him over the $1 million mark in season earnings for the fourth consecutive year...Was two strokes off the lead after 54 holes at the U.S. Senior Open but finished with a 74 for a T11...Had the year's final hole-in-one at the SENIOR TOUR Championship at Gaillardia in the third round...Third in sub-par rounds with 68...Played more rounds than any other player -- 112. Will begin the 2002 season with a streak of 152 straight tournaments played overall and 166 for which he has been eligible.  Career Highlights
2000: Had his finest season, finishing fourth on the money list with $1,802,063...No player had a busier schedule. Set a new mark when he played in all 39 official events, breaking the old record of 38, held by four players, including himself. Played more rounds than any other player (114). One of a then record 15 millionaires on the SENIOR TOUR. Joined those ranks in early July when he earned $18,148 for a T26 at the U.S. Senior Open...Had just one victory but it was memorable. Drained a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole to nip hometown favorite Tom Watson for the TD Waterhouse Championship title in May. That winning putt came just moments after Watson had placed his 8-iron approach shot within a foot of the cup, setting up a possible playoff. The victory was worth $195,000, then a career best...Had five other runner-up finishes...Fell two strokes short of Bruce Fleisher at the Lightpath Long Island Classic and seemed in command at the FORD SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, holding the lead heading into final hole, before a bogey at No. 18, coupled with birdie by Ray Floyd, gave Floyd his first title in four years. His effort in Dearborn helped push him over $4 million in SENIOR TOUR career earnings...Placed second in season opener at Hualalai and closed with rounds of 66-68 at the GTE Classic for solo 2nd in Tampa...Sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to eventually T2 at the rain-shortened PGA Seniors' Championship at PGA National...Held the 36-hole lead at both the Bruno's Memorial Classic and State Farm Senior Classic before finishing solo 3rd in those events...Second in Sub-Par Rounds (79).1999: The SENIOR TOUR "ironman," he played every round (119) of every official event (38) for the second straight year...Did everything but win, registering 18 top 10s (second to Bruce Fleisher) and set a record for most money earned in a year without a victory, $1,327,658...Fired a closing-round 66 and contended for the Bruno's Memorial Classic title before finishing one stroke back of Larry Nelson...Set an all-time record at the Novell Utah Showdown for lowest 36-hole score in relation to par (18-under 126) when he posted his two lowest rounds of the season on successive days...Set the Park Meadows CC course-record on Saturday with a sizzling 10-under 62, then added a 64 on Sunday to move into a tie with Dave Eichelberger at the end of regulation...Lost to Eichelberger in overtime when he missed a short par putt on the first extra hole...Also contended at the Kroger Senior Classic, but came in third near Cincinnati, three strokes shy of Gil Morgan despite three straight sub-70 rounds...Led the circuit in Sub-Par Rounds (77), Total Birdies (418) and was third in Rounds in the 60s (45). 1998: Won a pair of titles and was over the $1 million mark in official earnings for the first time in his career...Made a 33-foot birdie putt on the last hole of the Emerald Coast Classic to edge Jim Colbert in Pensacola...Used a sizzling 64, his low round of the campaign, on Sunday at Serrano CC to come from three shots back of John Morgan and win the Raley's Gold Rush Classic...Voted SENIOR TOUR's October Player of the Month...Topped the SENIOR TOUR in Sub-Par Rounds (71). 1997: Became the sixth open qualifier in SENIOR TOUR history to win an event when he defeated Jay Sigel in a three-hole playoff for the Northville Long Island Classic...Learned his father, Wally, had passed away following a long bout with cancer just minutes after the tournament ended...Made his SENIOR TOUR debut at the PGA Seniors' Championship just four days after turning 50...Monday qualified for four of his first eight starts before winning in New York.

Got his start in golf while serving as a caddie at Rhode Island CC...Played collegiately at the University of Rhode Island and is a member of that school's Hall of Fame...Inducted into the New England PGA Hall of Fame after the 2000 season...Served as head professional at Crestwood CC in Rehoboth, MA from 1983-96 before being elevated to Director of Golf in 1997...Nephew Brett has played on both the PGA TOUR and BUY.COM TOUR in recent years and finished 56th on the PGA TOUR's 2001 money list with $956,934.
