to Hale Irwin at the Senior Skins. Won all of his $150,000 when
he claimed seven skins on the seventh hole. It was the most
money any player ever made to start a Senior Skins Game...Announced
on April 3 that a bad back would force him to miss the Masters,

on their co-designed course, The King & Bear, in St. Augustine,
FL...T4 at the U.S. Senior Open at Salem and finished fourth
at the inaugural Siebel Classic in Silcon Valley...Honored by
American Society of Golf Course Architects with its 2001 Donald
Ross Award...Accepted invitation to become member at Augusta
National, joining Arnold Palmer as only former champions invited

| Again played in seven official events and registered two top-10
finishes...T4 at the U.S. Senior Open at Salem and finished
fourth at the inaugural Siebel Classic in Silcon Valley...Made
a spirited run at the U.S. Senior Open before bogeys on the
15th and 16th holes the final day ended his chances...Started
the final round of the Siebel event one stroke back of Hale
Irwin, but one-under 71 at Coyote Creek placed him fourth, his
best SENIOR TOUR finish since T2 at the 1997 PGA Seniors' Championship...Had
another chance at victory early in the campaign at the GTE Classic.
Was tied for the first-round lead in Tampa and just two strokes
off the pace after 36 holes. Drifted back into a T20 after a
final-round 75 at the TPC at Tampa Bay...Finished second to
Hale Irwin at the Senior Skins Game in January, despite claiming
10 skins and $260,000...Withdrew from the FORD SENIOR PLAYERS
Championship midway through the second round due to a hamstring
injury suffered earlier in the week...Played in four PGA TOUR
events, including his 42nd Masters Tournament, but missed the

| 2000: Made seven appearances and Had a lone top-10 finish
at the Countrywide Tradition. Closing-round 5-under-par 67 at
Desert Mountain helped him to a T9...Played in eight PGA TOUR
events and made two cuts -- T54 at the Masters and T64 at The
Memorial Tournament. 1999: Underwent hip replacement surgery
in January and played in only three official tournaments on
the SENIOR TOUR...Did not play until midway thru the year at
the Bell Atlantic Classic. Carded two rounds of 70 on the weekend
at Hartefeld National and finished 18th near Philadelphia...Withdrew
from the FORD SENIOR PLAYERS Championship after nine holes of
the third round due to a sore hip...Played in two PGA TOUR events
during the year. Missed the cut at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst
and T70 at The Memorial Tournament. 1998: Hobbled by a painful
left hip for the majority of the year and played in just six
official SENIOR TOUR events for the second straight season...Closed
with 68 at Augusta National and T6 at The Masters, four strokes
back of eventual winner Mark O'Meara...Ended his remarkable
run of 154 straight appearances in major championships when
he chose not to compete in the PGA Championship at Sahalee CC.
1997: Broke Sam Snead's record for most rounds played at the
Masters with his 147th on Sunday...Played his 10,000th hole
at the U.S. Open at Congressional CC. 1996: Became the first
player to win the same SENIOR TOUR event four times when he
claimed The Tradition. Victory in Arizona was his 100th as a
professional and was his eighth senior major championship, the
most by any player over 50. Shot 65 in the final round at Desert
Mountain to best Hale Irwin by three strokes. Carded his third
career double-eagle on Saturday at The Tradition, his first
since the 1965 Greater Jacksonville Open...Also claimed his
first 54-hole event on the SENIOR TOUR, rallying from five strokes
back to edge J.C. Snead for the GTE Suncoast Classic title.
1995: Defeated Isao Aoki in a playoff to win his third Tradition
title and, at the time, became only the fifth man to win the
same tournament three times...Also was the runner-up to Tom
Weiskopf at the U.S. Senior Open and lost to J.C. Snead in a
playoff for the FORD SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. 1994: Came
from three strokes back of Bob Murphy to win the Mercedes Championships
at LaCosta by a stroke. 1993: Claimed his second U.S. Senior
Open title, holding off rival Weiskopf by a shot at Cherry Hills
Country Club near Denver. 1991: Made just five appearances on
the SENIOR TOUR, but won three official events including his
only PGA Seniors' Championship and first U.S. Senior Open title...Shot
17-under 271 at PGA National GC, the lowest 72-hole score on
the SENIOR TOUR that year, to claim the PGA Seniors' crown by
six strokes over Bruce Crampton...U.S. Senior Open victory over
Chi Chi Rodriguez came in an 18-hole playoff at Oakland Hills
CC, 65 to 69, making him the first player ever to win USGA titles
in five different decades...Also came from five strokes back
to successfully defend his Tradition title by one over Jim Colbert,
Jim Dent and Phil Rodgers. 1990: Played in just four official
SENIOR TOUR events but won twice, finished second once and T3
in his only other tournament...Four-stroke win over Gary Player
at The Tradition made him the seventh of just 10 players ever
to claim a title in their SENIOR TOUR debut...Finished solo
sixth at The Masters a week later, at the time the best finish
by a senior in a major since Sam Snead (T3-1974 PGA Championship)...Cruised
to a six-stroke victory at the Mazda Senior TPC in record-setting
fashion by shooting a 27-under-par 261 at Dearborn CC, the lowest
72-hole total in SENIOR TOUR history. |
