Works as a sales manager for Beeson Industrial Sales in High Point,
North Carolina. . . played in U.S. Amateurs in 1982
and ’87, did not make match play in either championship. . . also
played in US Mid-Amateur in 1986 and ’87. . . has
tried to qualify for the US Open twice, and this marks the first
time he has tried to qualify for the U.S. Senior Open. Shot a 70
playing from North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh to qualify, surprised
he had qualified because thought 70 was too high of a score. . . one
of two spots from North Ridge. . . used to play in
a fair amount of amateur tournaments, but hasn’t played in many
competitive tournaments in last seven years. . . doing
more fishing then playing golf, played in three tournaments in the
last year, including the Carolina 4-ball and the Cardinal Amateur,
in which he posted a top-20 finish. . . played at
Richmond, started playing from the "crib", fortunate enough
to live on a golf course in small town in Virginia and had two older
brothers (54, 53) who played at an early age. . . father
introduced all three to the game. . . his nephew
Noble, 21, will caddie for him. . . recently attended
U.S. Open at Olympia Fields, on trip to airport got into a car accident,
both he and his wife suffered minor injuries but had to take off
a week before the Senior Open. . . plays golf left-handed. . . married
