Player Diary: Jack Nicklaus

Two-time Senior Open champ Jack Nicklaus shot a 6-over 77 Thursday. He shared his brief thoughts with www.ussenioropen.com:

Today was all about hitting greens, which I didn’t do very well, hitting only six greens. And of the ones I missed, I one-putted four times; the rest were bogeys, all eight of them.

I did hole a few putts -- I missed a ton -- but I holed a few, which gives me a chance [Friday].

If I didn't make a couple of long putts I would have vaulted into the 90s. As it stands I am going to have a good day [Friday] with every club.

My short game [Thursday] was about the same as it has been. I need to put something a little better together [Friday].
