Entered the Air Force after high school, served 8 months
and 29 days before his father died and he returned home. . . stationed
at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. . . went
to work as assistant golf professional after the Air Force, turning
professional in 1972. . . worked as head professional
at Woodward Country Club in Bessemer, Alabama, from 1974-77. . . currently
works part-time at, ironically, the Inverness Golf Shop in Birmingham. . . currently
trying to play the Champions Tour through Monday qualifying, most
recently has played events on the Tight lies/Cadillac Senior Series. . . did
go out for the Q-school in 2001, got to the final stage and made
the cut but did not get his card. . . has played
in the last two Brunos Memorial Classics on the Champions Tour at
his home course of Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham. . . shot
72-66-82 last year, played with John Jacobs in final round. . . in
2002 won the Alabama Open Championship for the second time and,
at 52-years old, the oldest player to win. . . won
the Alabama Open Championship, in 1977, on the same golf course
(Pine Tree Golf Club) by the same exact score of 8-under par. . . has
tried 29 times to qualify for the U.S. Open, got to sectional qualifying
8 times. . . first alternate in 1978 at Cherry Hills. . . third
time trying to qualify for the Senior Open, first time he’s qualified. . . qualified
from Old Hickory CC in Nashville, earned only spot out of 57 players
with a 68, getting up and down for par on 17 and birdying the final
hole to qualify. . . immediately after qualifying
went to Tyler, Texas, for the Tight Lies/Senior Classic, tied for
sixth with a 71-67-71. . . has been married for 24
years to Patricia, a 12-handicap herself who has won the club championship
nine times. . . has a daughter, 32, Schelane Lacy
