| Has lived in New York for 13 years, is retired from
the magazine business, worked in Sales and Marketing for Time Inc.;
this is his third attempt at qualifying for the Senior Open, was an
alternate in 2002 and qualified this year after shooting a 69 and
taking medalist honors at Elmwood Country Club in White Plains, New
York, with a birdie on his 17th hole of the day to solidify one of
three spots from 120-player field; has only played competitive tournament
golf for 3 _ years now, but in that time has tried to qualify for
12 USGA championships, which includes four Mid-Amateurs, two U.S.
Opens, two U.S. amateurs, and three Senior Opens; before qualifying,
closest he came was as alternate for Senior Open and in Mid-Amateur;
locally, an active player with the Metropolitan Golf Association and
the Westchester Golf Association, calls himself a "field-filler";
won recently at the Nassau Golf Club Invitational last fall, semifinalist
in the Dixie Amateur Senior Division two years ago; grew up playing
on a Donald Ross golf course, Oakland Hills, so he’s familiar with
the feel of a Donald Ross; has played Inverness several times, comfortable
with the undulating greens but excited just to be in the field for
the week, no expectations; currently working with the USGA, is in
charge of marketing for the U.S. Amateur at Winged Foot next year;
has two daughters, Abbey and Kris, and is married. |
