2001: Selected as the Champions Tour's Comeback Player of the Year...Gained his first Champions Tour victory when he defeated Allen Doyle in a two-hole playoff to capture the NFL Golf Classic in New Jersey. Birdied the 18th hole in regulation at Upper Montclair to help set up the playoff, and then got up and down for a par-3 on the second extra hole to earn the win. Win was his first TOUR victory since the 1973 Liggett & Myers Open Match Play Championship, ending a drought of 27 years, nine months and 15 days, the second-longest gap between a final PGA TOUR victory and first Champions Tour triumph (Mike Fetchick--28 years, 9 months and 27 days). 2000: Regained some exempt status for the first time since 1998 when he finished in the 10th position at the National Qualifying Tournament at Eagle Pines Golf Course. Was one of five players tied at 10-under 278 after 72 holes, but made bogey on the first playoff hole...Advanced to the final stage with a third-place effort at the Southern California regional. 1998: Participated in 27 Champions Tour events after finishing ninth at the 1997 National Qualifying Tournament...T4 at the Northville Long Island Classic...Finished out of the top-50 on the money list and then lost his Player's Card for 1999 after placing T49 at the National Qualifying Tournament at Grenelefe. 1996: Was fully exempt after finishing eighth at the 1995 Champions Tour National Qualifier. Made birdie on the first extra hole of a four-man playoff...Almost won the Bell Atlantic Classic, but lost along with Tom Wargo, to Dale Douglass, in a playoff near Philadelphia.
