Works as a stock broker; never turned professional, played
golf at UNC and then went to work in real estate, and has been in
the business world ever since. . . Recently has played
in local golf and charity events, but has long history playing in
USGA championships; played in the 1973 U.S. Amateur at Inverness,
in which he had to leave the Walker Cup early to begin play; has
played in 19 U.S. amateurs, one U.S. Open, 5 Mid-Amatuers. . . played
in 1976 at Atlanta Athletic Club, played four rounds, shooting 73
and 69 the first two days to find himself in the hunt, eventually
finished around T62nd, shooting 80-79 on the final two days; played
third round with Johnny Miller; best finish in U.S. Amateur was
6th in 1971, 4th in 1972; this will be his first Senior Open, has
been an alternate the last two out of three years. . . also
played in two Walker Cup Matches (’73 and ’79) and one Eisenhower
Cup (’72); teammates included Gary Koch, Bill Rodgers, Danny Edwards,
and Mark Pfeil. . . qualified for 2003 Senior Open
at CC at Woodmore; the first guy off the tee, posted an even-par
72; had a penalty stroke on the 10th hole when the ball moved as
he addressed it, made double bogie on that hole but then made two
bogies coming in, shot even par, only one person beat that score;
has two sons (26 and 22), and is married, wife; son Marty, 26, will
be caddieing for him.
