| Works for Century Equipment, which is a dealer
of Toro machinery, as a distributor of Toro mowing equipment to local
golf clubs; lives only 1 _ hours from Inverness, but has never played
there; in the Northeast Ohio Amateur, has finished everywhere in the
top-10 but first-place; is the three-time defending Greater Cleveland
Amateur champion; attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open many years
ago, but nevera did qualify. This will be his first showing in a USGA
event and, as he just turned 50, first time in a Senior Open. . . a
dream come true. Remembers qualifying round at Wedgewood Golf and
Country Club in Columbus as windy and rainy, double bogied the final
hole which he assumed took him out of contention, but still ended
up with 71, good for medalist honors; at Cleveland State, a walk on
who wound up with a full scholarship; tells the story of night before
NCAA tournament in California, where coaches changed his grip from
baseball grip to interlocking, that year the team finished 11th in
Division II; friend Joe Skupski, also an amateur, is an alternate
from the Columbus site, the two planned on being the two qualifiers
from Wedgewood but it didn’t work out that way, as Skupski lost in
a playoff; has been married for 19 years, but has no children; golfing
buddy Bob Quaisar will be caddieing for him after Quaisar claimed
Brick as his player after learning that he had qualified for the Senior |
