1; long amateur career in the state of New Jersey. Won the New Jersey
State Amateur Championship, at age 55 in 1993. . . In
2000, earned the last win of any significance, Hough Wilson Championship
at Merion, the 39th tournament he has won in his amateur career. . . six
state championships, won three Walter J. Travis match play championships
in three decades; from first amateur win to last amateur win was
20 years. . . An amateur, qualified in Elmwood at
White Plains to play in his sixth Senior Open. . . also
qualified to play at Medinah at age 50, low amateur in that Open,
shooting 77-76-75-74; has played Cherry Hills, Pinehurst, Congressional
(low amateur), Canterbury, made the cut at all of them but Canterbury. . . this
marks the first time he has qualified for the Senior Open in seven
years. . . a semifinalist in the first Mid-Amateur
in 1981; played in four or five mid-amateurs, a semifinalist in
two Senior Amateurs (’93 and ’94). . . married to
wife, Marjorie, has three children, Christopher (38), son Patrick,
and daughter Jennifer Paige Chapman, also has three grandchildren
(grandson Zachary, granddaughters Tara and Kelly). . . hopes
to get a young college student to caddie for him
