Was the 36- and 54-hole leader at World Woods GC, but shot a final-round 76 and lost by one stroke to Smyth on the final hole of the event...Put his name next to Jay Sigel in the Champions Tour record books earlier in the year at the Senior PGA Championship. Started his Sunday final round on the South Course at Firestone with seven straight birdies and then added another at No. 9 for an 8-under 27, tying the all-time nine-hole mark. Eventually carded a 5-under 65 and T18 in the championship...Was the leading player on the European Seniors Tour with three victories and record official earnings of (euro) 330,210...Became the first player in European Seniors Tour history to successfully defend a title when he did it at the AIB Irish Seniors Open. Defeated Denis Durnian by two strokes at Adare Manor and donated 10,000 from his 46,500 euro total to Irish children's charities...Also won the Wales Senior Open and the De Vere PGA Seniors Championship. His 10-stroke win over George Burns and Steve Stull at the De Vere broke the circuit's previous largest margin of victory by one stroke. His 21-under 267 total was also the lowest 72-hole score in Tour history. |
