to work for Atlanta Fire Department out of high school, firefighter
for 30 years and retired in 1992. . . turned professional
in 1994, played first professional event in ’94 Senior Open at Pinehurst
No. 2. . . greatest golf moment is playing in 1994
Senior Open at Pinehurst, shot 68-73-78-80. . . played
with Dale Douglass and Bill Lydle in third round as third-to-last
group. . . finished championship pair with Tommy Aaron
and Jim Powell (4th). . . Pinehurst experience taught
him to zone out the crowd. . . recently played in Georgia
State Senior Open, finished tied for seventh (71-73-74). . . wife
is orthopedic surgeon, Yvonne. . . two children, 22
month old twins Christopher and Nicole . . . son from
previous marriage, Scott, will be caddieing for him. . . played
in quite a few events on Champions tour through Monday qualifying
in 1990s, but never made it past Q-school. Won Senior Series mini-tour
event in 1994 at Fuzzy Zoeller-designed Covered Bridge in Southern
Indiana. . . had to take some time off from golf recently
because underwent three operations in 2001. . . had
two neck operations, had ruptured disks and bone spurts were removed. . . also
underwent knee operation, foot operation. Qualified comfortably for
Senior Open at Rivermont Golf and Country Club in Atlanta, shot one-under
71. Motivated to attempt to qualify because believed he was finally
back to where he was competitive. . . health remains
good. |
