Turned professional in 1996. . . worked
in the food industry for nearly thirty years. . . currently
semi-retired, works in a casino in Mississippi at night, also has
a part-time job with Advantage, a marketing firm based in Los Angeles. . . has
played in every USGA event open to him except for the U.S. Open.
Tried to qualify for last year’s Open, made it to sectional qualifying
but did not qualify. . . played in 2000, 2001 Senior
Opens, made the cut both years. In 2000, at Saucon Valley, shot
71-72-76-77. . . in 2001, at Salem, shot 75-73-76-74. . . has
played in two US Public Links championships, two Junior Amateurs,
two U.S. Amateurs, Mid-Amateur this will be his third Senior Open.
Best finish came at US mid-amateur, reached third round of
match play, lost to Frank Fuhrer. . . In 2000 Open,
played with Larry Nelson. Played on the Champions Tour in 1997 after
placing second at Q-school in ’96. . . hasn’t qualified
for card since then, so plays tournaments through Monday qualifying.
Recently, has had a Top-15 finish at Charlotte and Los Angeles,
and top-20 finishes at Napa Valley, Nashville. . . playing
in Tennessee, was the low amateur in State Open and runner-up in
1993 State Amateur to Danny Green. . . had a hole-in-one
at Senior Open qualifying at Deerfield CC in Canton, Mississippi,
recorded the low score by five shots. . . marked
his third hole-in-one in competition, 11 in career. . . his
daughter-in-law, married to son, Scott (28), a navy pilot stationed
now in Italy, is currently 8 _ months pregnant, most likely will
give birth during week of Senior Open. Most of family, including
wife of 33 years, Margaret, and 22 year-old daughter, Catherine,
will be in Jacksonville taking care of daughter-in-law during the
Open. . . brother in law will caddie for him at the
Open
