USGA Increases Money For 2003 Open Championships

Far Hills, N.J. -- Prize money for the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open has been increased for this year’s championships, the United States Golf Association announced.

The Open purse will be set at $6 million, an increase of $500,000 over last year’s amount. First-place money will be $1,080,000. The Open will be played from June 12-15 at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.

The Women’s Open money total was increased by $100,000 to $3.1 million, with a first prize of $560,000. The championship will be played from July 3-6 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore.

The Senior Open purse was increased by $100,000 to $2.6 million, with first place worth $470,000. The championship will be held from June 26-29 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
