Jay Haas awoke to a surprise, seeing water everywhere when he got to Bellerive Country Club. He shared his thoughts about the second round being pushed to Saturday. Well, I had the alarm set for 5:17 a.m. and went with the eight-minute snooze to 5:25 and got out to the course right about 6. I knew I wasn't going to play golf on my tee time of 7:55, but I was up and I decided to come over and sit around and have breakfast. Before I got there I didn't realize that it had pretty much rained over night and the practice tee was a sheet of water, so when I got here I got the official word that we were going to be delayed. So I had some breakfast with Ben Crenshaw, J.C. Snead and Raymond Floyd; they talked politics and I listened. Thinking that eventually we would play I went and worked out a little, did some stretching and the like getting ready to play, but the decision was to call it and I am comfortable with that. It's nice to have a day off once in awhile, an unplanned day off. It's nice to not have the stress of not playing golf for a day. But now I'm left with finding something to do for the afternoon, which means most likely a movie -- I think Manchurian Candidate is coming out today -- and then I have plans to go to dinner with my sister, mom and my uncle Bob (Bob Goalby). Tomorrow will be the same, get up early and out here early again tomorrow for my second round. |
