Curtis Strange

Curtis Strange, the last player to win back-to-back U.S. Opens, shot a 4-over-par 146 to miss the cut in his first Senior Open. A frustrated Strange shared his thoughts with www.ussenioropen.com.

I quit, I quit golf.  I won't play again this year, except I'll play Raleigh (SAS Championship) because that is where my son lives.  I've had it; I'm going to go home.

I just embarrassed myself; it's a joke.  I can't do anything and I can't beat anybody.  I'm spinning my wheels out there.  I'm serious, if there was some potential, but this is as good as I can do.  I worked as hard as I can work out there and I don't have a clue, a clue.  I just get worse.  I hit shots that six handicappers at the club could beat me, I'm dead serious.  All the amateurs in this field beat me.

I feel so bad about it, that's what makes me so miserable.  I'm a raving lunatic and I don't want to be like that.  I hated it before and I hate it now, that's probably the worse part about it.  If I didn't care so much I'd be out here floundering and cashing a check every week, but you don't want to do that -- you want to play well.

It comes to a point that you get tired of fighting it, that's why I quit eight years ago.

I actually felt great today, warmed-up great, my back didn't hurt for some reason, my hip didn't hurt, I don know why and played awful.

The course continued to stand up well and is a great venue, a place I would play every day.  The greens are starting to dry out and now are less mushy; it will be a great weekend.
