Player Notes: Became just the eighth open qualifier in Champions Tour history to win a tournament when he triumphed at the 2002 NFL Golf Classic. Qualified for the event on Tuesday when he posted a 67. Had competed in eight PGA Club Professional Championships, with a career-best finish T-13 in 1997. . . Was a teaching professional at The Orchard Country Club in Clarksville, Ga. . . Tied for fourth in the 2001 PGA Senior Club Professional Championship . . . Competed in 2001 U.S. Senior Open…Tried to get his Senior Tour card in the 2001 Champions Tour qualifying tournament but finished T44th. Tried to qualify for Senior Tour events in the Monday qualifiers, and got in seven events in 25 Monday qualifiers. In 11 tries in 2002 he got into the Farmers Charity Classic (T57th) and the NFL Golf Classic, which he won.. Was the first open qualifier to win since Jim Ahern won the 1999 AT&T Canada Senior Open. Mason, whose best previous finish was T38th in last years Allianz Championship, earned a one-year exemption for the win . .Competed in 1997 PGA Championship, 1973 U.S. Amateur, five BellSouth Classics, five Buick Southern Opens. . .
