Players in the following categories will be eligible for exemption from Sectional Qualifying. Exemption under categories reserved for amateurs will be granted only to player who are currently amateurs. An Amateur who is exempt into the Championship proper through a category reserved for amateurs becomes ineligible if he becomes a professional before the beginning play or during the play of the Championship. Exempt players who wish to participate in the Championship must file an entry, except those players for whom blank entries are filed as noted below. Exempt players need not meet the handicap requirement.

S-1. Winners of the U.S. Senior Open Championship.

S-3. Winners of the U.S. Amateur the last ten years (1996-2004) and the semifinalist from 2005 (must be an amateur).
