Most Rulings given out during the third round had to do with giving relief from immovable obstructions such as sprinkler heads and cart paths. Common occurrences while playing golf for anyone. But what is not as common for most of us is a large gallery following our play. Sometimes the gallery can get a little more involved than intended. During play of round two and round three we had incidences of spectators picking up a player’s ball in play.
On Friday, Dave Delich, during play of the first hole had hit his shot a little off line and into the crowd. A young boy picked up the ball and, according to referee Missy Crisp, he was admonished by his parents then dropped the ball. Missy and the others in the area assisted with finding the approximate location of the ball before it was picked up. Delich then dropped the ball on the estimated spot. No penalty to anyone under the Rules of Golf however, the little boy may have broken one of his parents rules.
Speaking of Delich, he missed the cut, but you’ll see him teeing it up on the first hole early this morning. Delich was asked to be a playing marker for Stan Lee in the first group when we ended up with an odd number of players for the final round. Lee was asked if he would like his marker to play or not and he was fine with a playing marker. Thus the call went out to Delich, who obliged.
