Player notes: Only the third player in history to successfully defend his U.S. Senior Open title (2005-06), joining Miller Barber and Gary Player…One of five players to own multiple Senior Open titles…Besides Barber and Player, Jack Nicklaus and Hale Irwin are the others…Enjoyed a highly successful amateur career before turning pro at the age of 47…Semifinalist at 1992 U.S. Amateur, losing to eventual champion Justin Leonard, and was a member of two USA Walker Cup teams in 1991 and ’93, and competed on three USA World Amateur Team Championship squads (1990, ’92, ’94)…Turned pro in 1995 and won three times on the Nike Tour (now Nationwide Tour) and became PGA Tour’s oldest rookie at 47 when he competed in 1996…Played two seasons on PGA Tour before joining Champions Tour, where he has posted 11 victories…Also won Constellation Energy Players Championship in 2001 and Senior PGA Championship in 1999 for other two senior majors…Attended Norwich (Vt.) University on a Francis Ouimet Scholarship and was eventually selected to the school’s Hall of Fame…Besides golf, was a standout hockey player for the school, and graduated as the school’s top scoring defenseman…Was ECAC golf champion in 1970…Member of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Georgia Golf Hall of Fame…Got started in golf as a caddie at Spring Valley C.C. in Sharon, Mass…Favorite all-time athlete is NHL Hall of Famer Bobby Orr…Daughters Michelle and Erin are both accomplished amateur golfers who have qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur…Started The First Tee facility in LaGrange that is overseen by daughter Michelle…Not uncommon to see Allen working at facility doing various chores.
