Player Notes: He started to play golf at age 13, being introduced to the game by his father. Although he was born in Wisconsin, the family moved to the San Francisco area were he played golf at the Los Altos Country Club and started to play in the Northern California junior program. After attending college at Arizona State, he took a job as a assistant pro at the Camelback C.C. in Phoenix, Ariz. While there, Forsman won some Section PGA events and qualified for the 1982 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, playing a practice round with Seve Ballesteros. At the end of that year, he went to Q-school and made it. He steadily improved, and won his first victory in the 1985 Quad Cities Open. In 1986, he struck again in the rain-shortened Bay Hill Classic to win by one stroke over Ray Floyd and Mike Hulbert. He continued to improve in 1987 and also in1988, but playing in 33 and 35 tournaments in those years took its toll. His earnings in 1989 slipped, but it was a valuable lesson. With a limited schedule and new vigor in 1990, Forsman won the 1990 Shearson Lehman Hutton Open by a three-stroke margin. . . In the PGA Tour's statistic categories, Forsman led the Tour in Birdies in 1987 and 1988. He was once considered one of the longest drivers on tour, coming in 3rd in driving distance in 1990, T-4th in 1991 and winning the 1987 MCI Long Distance Competition.
