Player Notes: Did not start playing golf until he was 19. Got hooked on the game while attending Occidental College in Los Angeles. Browne broke through with his first PGA Tour win at the 1998 Canon Greater Hartford Open, defeating Larry Mize and Stewart Cink on the first hole of sudden death. He had arm surgery at the end of 1998 and was unable to play in the 1999 Mercedes Championships. Before getting his card on the PGA Tour Browne competed on the Nike circuit, winning four times, a career total exceeded only by Sean Murphy's and Matt Gogel's six Nike wins and Chris Smith's five. Browne's father is Chilean and when he won the 1993 Nike Monterrey Open in Mexico he gave his victory speech in Spanish.
